Election 2008
Unfair and unbalanced ABC and Fox News exclude candidates from debates!
NEW YORK - January 1, 2008 - New Hampshire officials are urging ABC and the Fox News Channel to include more candidates in this weekend's presidential debates.
The roster of participants for ABC's back-to-back, prime-time Republican and Democratic debates Saturday in New Hampshire will be determined after results of Thursday's Iowa caucus become clear.
Meanwhile, unfair and unbalanced Fox News has invited five GOP candidates to a forum on Sunday, leaving Ron Paul and Duncan Hunter on the sidelines.
New Hampshire's Democratic party chairman Ray Buckley says the move to limit the debates goes against New Hampshire's tradition of giving each candidate an equal opportunity to be heard. State GOP chairman Fergus Cullen agrees. He says the state party has been negotiating with Fox to include more candidates.

Ron Paul to be excluded from biased Fox News candidates forum!
December 29, 2007 - Many supporters of Dr. Paul's have asked whether he has been excluded from the candidates forum to be broadcast by Fox News on January 6, 2008 in New Hampshire.
According to the New Hampshire State Republican Party and an Associated Press report, Republican presidential candidate and Texas Congressman Ron Paul will be excluded from an upcoming forum of Republican candidates to be broadcast by Fox News.
"Given Ron Paul's support in New Hampshire and his recent historic fundraising success, it is outrageous that Dr. Paul would be excluded," said Ron Paul 2008 campaign chairman Kent Snyder. "Dr. Paul has consistently polled higher in New Hampshire than some of the other candidates who have been invited."
Snyder continued, "Paul supporters should know that we are continuing to make inquiries with Fox News as to why they have apparently excluded Dr. Paul from this event."
Ed. Note: How can you tolerate such an attempt to undermine the free elections on which your country was established? Why do you stand for such blatant abuse of your right to select the person you think is best qualified to act as your President? When is enough, enough? Call, write, email and fax Fox News. Force them to spend all of their time fielding calls expressing your indignation at their unfair and unbalanced approach to news, and their unAmerican position with respect to individual rights and freedom!
Ron Paul says the United States is getting ready to bomb Iran!
December 27, 2007 - Despite a recent National Intelligence Estimate finding that Iran has halted its nuclear weapons program, libertarian-leaning GOP presidential contender Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) says there is still "a great possibility" of U.S. military action against the country.
Appearing on MSBNC's Morning Joe, Paul described what he characterized as a deteriorating situation on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan, and said the U.S. was preparing to kick start yet another conflict - this time in Iran.
"It is getting worse over there," he said. "Afghanistan is getting worse. Turkey is bombing Iraq. And Pakistan is blowing up and we're getting ready to bomb Iran. A bunch of those neocons want to bomb Iran."
Asked how the U.S. could justify military action against Iran in the wake of the National Intelligence Estimate - which determined that the country hadn't actively pursued a nuclear weapon since 2003 - Paul said he didn't think the report would do much to deter a strike.
"I think it's a great possibility. Read Seymour Hersh. He is the expert over there," said Paul of the Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist, who has previously reported that the U.S. is preparing a preemptive strike against Iran.
"And the Iranian Revolutionary Guard has been declared a terrorist organization for the purpose of them being the targets rather than had the nuclear power plants," Paul said. "So, wait and see... there are still quite a few neoconservatives that want to go after Iran under these unbelievable conditions."
Concluded Paul, "That is the absurdity of the whole mess we have in there...stay out of entangling alliances, stay out of nation building. We ought to just get out of that place."
Congressman and Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul warns of soft fascism!
“It reminds me of what Sinclair Lewis once said, he says: 'When fascism comes to this country, it will be wrapped in the flag, carrying a cross.’”
December 23, 2007 - Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) explained to Tim Russert of Meet the Press that in the above statement, he was not calling presidential contender and Republican competitor Mike Huckabee a fascist, but the image of a cross planted in a recently released Huckabee campaign ad brought the quote to his mind.
However, Paul does believe that the United States has adopted fascist leanings. Changes in the country's tone, says the Congressman, such as the USA PATRIOT Act, questioning dissenters' patriotism during the war, and civil liberties abuses indicate corporatism, or "soft fascism”, namely a stronghold by the military-industrial complex on society.
"So," said Russert, "you think we're close to fascism?"
Mentioning a documentary entitled "Freedom to Fascism," Paul responds, "We're not moving toward Hitler-type fascism, but we are moving toward a softer fascism. Loss of civil liberties, corporations running the show, big government in bed with big business. So you have the military-industrial complex, you have the medical-industrial complex, you have the financial industry, you have the communications industry. They go to Washington and spend hundreds of millions of dollars.
"That's where the control is," says the Congressman. "I call that a soft form of fascism - something that's very dangerous."
Presidential candidate Ron Paul raises record $6 million in 24-hours!
December 17, 2007 - Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul's supporters raised over $6 million Sunday to boost the 10-term Texas congressman's campaign for the White House.
Called a "Money Bomb," the goal was to raise as much money as possible on the Internet in one day. The campaign's previous fundraiser brought in $4.2 million.
At midnight EST, donations were over $6 million, according to the campaign Web site. Those donations are processed credit card receipts, said Paul campaign spokesman Jesse Benton. Benton said the median donation is about $50 in the fundraiser, which was the idea of Paul supporters who are not officially connected to the campaign.
Trevor Lyman, a Paul supporter who is traveling the country following the Ron Paul blimp, said the date of the fundraiser coincides with the 234th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party.
The Ron Paul blimp is an aerial billboard emblazoned on one side with "Who is Ron Paul? Google Ron Paul." The other side reads "Ron Paul Revolution." The blimp, another grass-roots effort, was in Chester, S.C., on Sunday, and organizers hope to get it to New Hampshire before the Jan. 8 primary there.
Open letter to our would-be Commanders in Chief
This past September, I returned to my home duty station from Iraq. I was greeted rather graciously by my home unit when I returned there, and by my family when I returned to visit my home town. Was there a ticker-tape parade, or even a letter from some of the fine folks who claim to “support our troops”, whether by supporting our mission, calling for us to come home, or by putting yellow magnetic ribbons on their SUVs? No, and I’m quite sure I wouldn’t have wanted any of that. When I returned home, all I wanted was to see and be with my family, because that reunion was not, to my mind, guaranteed, and it was, ultimately, the most important thing in the world to me when I was ducking and covering during rocket attacks on our base. Political considerations took a back seat, and I certainly didn’t want to hear a bunch of insincere praise from people who don’t know or care to know who I am underneath the uniform.
But now that the moment has passed and I’ve returned to my duty section and started the process of leaving that all behind me, certain things have crept up, and I’m not sure what to make of them.
I’ve read the story about former Lance Corporal James Blake Miller, better known in the press as the “Marlboro Marine”. He’s been kicked out of the Marines for having Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, is jobless and divorced. He survived the Iraq War, but he’s lost the life that he had. He lobbied several congressmen on behalf of the National Mental Health Association, but none had any interest in taking up his cause or, in at least one case, even seeing him. They politely shuffled him along and presumably went on to meet with more “important” lobbyists (and we all know what makes someone “important” in Washington, right? Money!)
I read that one in every four homeless persons is a vet, and that Iraq War veterans are finding themselves on the street more quickly than Vietnam veterans did. I should have been outraged, but instead I simply thought, “maybe that’s where I’ll end up.” I can’t make any sense of these thoughts, but in the past week or so I’ve had a strong urge to simply drop out of society, to just quit. What would be the loss? My frequent moves while I’ve been in the military have kept me perpetually single, so I have no family obligations. Once my term of service is up, I’ll have no further military obligations. What do I do with my life then? I’ve given thought to going into journalism, but that’s driven by a desire to affect change and make the world a better place. I still have that desire, but I’m no longer certain that I have the ability. For all the writing I do, it seems that nobody with the power to act on my words pays any attention to them, and I honestly have a much better track record of “being right” in recent years than the majority of the power brokers in Washington.
I can no longer abide being a mere symbol in some politician’s crusade. “Support our Troops”, as though we‘re a baseball team. “I Support the Troops and My President”, as though the two go hand in hand. “Support Our Troops: Bring Them Home Alive”, as though clever framing amounts to anything but kudos from your fellow peace activists. Every day that passes, more of my brothers and sisters in arms are dying, and every day more of us are asking why. We have not, to date, received anything but platitudes from the people who support the war, or excuses from the people who oppose it. “If I would have known then what I know now…” Known what, Senator? That war is hell, and that every battle plan goes out the window the moment the first shot is fired? People have been saying these things for centuries, for millennia. These are not new lessons, but perhaps your study of history is limited to the lessons applicable to your ascent to power. To the millions who marched in the streets trying to tell you then what you know now, you turned a deaf ear.
To those who still support our mission, I’ll give you credit for staying true to your convictions, but to what end are we fighting? Can I get a straight answer from you just once? Not just a platitude espousing the virtues of freedom being on the march when freedom in Iraq seems to be synonymous with large explosions, gunfire, and flag-draped caskets rolling in front of me? To borrow a phrase, what the hell are we fighting for? Nobody really seems to know anymore - even the people who insist that we have to keep fighting.
I’m not talking about politicians, pundits, bloggers, or callers on talk radio. I’m talking about my fellow service members, my fellow Iraq War veterans. Many of us are (were) not quite clear on what we’re doing there, and we’ve more or less resigned ourselves to the notion that it’s out of our hands. The powers that be in Washington are going to do what they’re going to do, and it’s going to have little to do with anything we do, for good or for ill. But is that as it should be? I question whether you, who would ask for my vote (and my money) based on promises you’ve no obligation to keep, really feel as though you are accountable to us for the decisions you either have made or will make in the future. If I, in the course of my duties in Iraq, made a mistake that cost someone his life, I would rightly have to be accountable for that. You, who made a mistake that cost literally thousands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis their lives, ask for a promotion. Don’t you think that you have at least a moral obligation to stop and listen to what I have to say for a few seconds before you turn around and hit me up for cash? The answer seems to be no, based on the response I’ve received when trying to contact various Presidential candidates.
But I am here, and I’m not going to go away. My ranks are swelling, and soon we will be legion. You have only yourselves to thank for that.
