Texas to pass law allowing students to carry firearms on campus!

AUSTIN, Texas - February 21, 2011 - The state of Texas has taken its pro-gun stance to another level with a bill that will allow college students to bring concealed weapons to class, all in the name of self-defense.

The state Senate is getting ready to pass a firearms bill that would affect 38 public universities, 500,000 students and hundreds of professors. Governor Rick Perry, a staunch gun advocate, has confirmed he will sign the bill when it passes.

Texas would become the second state in the country to allow guns on college campuses; Utah was the first. The law is not without its detractors; University of Texas President William Powers is in opposition.

If the law passes, it will go into effect in Texas on September 1, 2011.
