TAMPA, Florida - July 9, 2008 -
Charges against Hillsborough County Detention Deputy, Charlette Marshall-Jones
will be dropped as part of a plea deal.
Jones is accused of dumping quadriplegic, Brian Sterner, from his wheelchair.
It happened January 29th, in the booking area of the Hillsborough County Jail.
Sterner was arrested for an outstanding warrant after a traffic violation.
The incident was recorded by Hillsborough County Jail surveillance cameras, and made headlines across the country.
Marshall-Jones dumped him out of the wheelchair, and searched him on the floor.
Marshall-Jones was one of four deputies suspended for the incident.
This morning, charges against her were dropped.
In exchange, Marshall-Jones agreed to give up her law enforcement certification, which will make her ineligible to work in law enforcement.
She also agreed to complete an 18-month pre-trial intervention, along with performing 100 hours of community service with the disabled.
