ROME, Italy (PNN) - May 4, 2015 - Italy’s military is strangely responsible for growing the country’s first medical marijuana crop. Colonel Antonio Medica, the director of the facility where the marijuana is being grown, told Italian daily Corriere della Sera that the crop is “coming along nicely”.
The Italian government said that they are using the military to grow the crop because they want the product to be secure.
Recreational marijuana is not yet legal in Italy, but medical marijuana for specific purposes has been legal for a number of years. However, patients are still having trouble accessing the product, due to a large demand and low supply. This new grow program is hoping to change that.
“The aim of the operation is to provide users with a product that is not always easily available on the market, at a more competitive price,” said Medica.
“We’re aiming to lower the price to under 15 euros ($17), maybe even around 5 euros ($5.60) per gram,” he added.
Oddly enough, the Fascist Police States of Amerika government also decided to get into the marijuana business, announcing last year that it will be growing 1500 pounds of marijuana at a farm in Mississippi.
