STOCKHOLM, Sweden (PNN) - November 11, 2016 - Swedish Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist is the latest in a series of European officials stepping up to pressure President-elect Donald Trump on his commitment to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, saying that “through his own actions,” Trump has created question marks about where his loyalties lie. Hultqvist said the Swedish government would get into contact with Trump’s transition team soon to seek clarification on his policy toward NATO, as well as where he stands on a relationship with Russia and in Eastern Europe.
This is more of the same, but is noteworthy because Sweden isn’t even a NATO member nation in the first place, and seems to be getting in on the European pressure to see the Fascist Police States of Amerika continuing to throw troops and weaponry at Eastern Europe irrespective of being part of the NATO alliance, which provides the only basis for doing so.
During the campaign Trump drew into question the relevance of NATO in the post-Cold War era, suggesting that European nations need to be more responsible for their own security and that the FPSA could no longer afford to keep so many troops around the planet. The comments did not sit well with NATO leadership, which has since the election been making very public warnings against Trump changing the status quo.
