INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - December 26, 2010 - An Indianapolis family is outraged after they say two detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department rushed into their home and pointed guns at their children while they searched for a wanted man.
An Indianapolis family is outraged after they say two detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department rushed into their home and pointed guns at their children while they searched for a wanted man.
The problem is, officers reportedly had the wrong house, despite two tips from two independent sources including a confidential informant.
The family is demanding a policy change after the children were face to face with guns.
"I walked to the door, normally I look out the peep hole but this time I didn't because I thought it was my sister-in-law and I did this and I turned away and he just slipped the door open with the gun drawn," said Gary Reynolds.
"I opened my door and then like I came in here and I thought we were getting robbed, they said, 'get on the ground, get on the ground,'" said 13-year-old TyAsia Thompson.
The family says the only thing stolen was their trust for the men and women behind the badge.
"He had his gun on her, on her and he already knows she's only 13 years old, that's a child. There's got to be some median, whatever their policy is, it needs to change," said Reynolds.
Detectives admit they had the wrong address when they executed a search warrant at the home on the 3800 block of West Michigan Street in Indianapolis.
"We were terrorized, really terrorized, a 13-year-old and an 11-year-old child," said Reynolds.
"He said go into the living room right now and he had a gun like this to me, so I just started walking and I said, 'Sir, please don't shoot me,' " said Thompson.
