KEENE, New Hampshire (PNN) - October 9, 2019 - A man named “Nobody” ran for mayor to give neighbors in his town the option to literally vote for “Nobody”.
Nobody, 50, was one of three candidates running to be mayor of Keene, New Hampshire, after legally changing his name months ago.
Signs urging voters to support him were posted around town that read, “Nobody tells the truth, Nobody can fix the economy,” and “Nobody cares about the poor.”
He said, “I made it (the name change) because I intended to run for office and there’s a lot of jobs in government that Nobody should do.”
Nobody said, if elected, he would have fought to legalize marijuana, explaining that his wife died of cancer without the opportunity to use medical marijuana to ease her suffering.
He also vowed to be fiscally conservative and hoped to lower taxes.
On Tuesday’s elections, only 11% of the town voted, but they voted against Nobody. Instead, they nominated his opponents, Mitchell Greenwald and George Hansel, who will face off in November’s general election, but Nobody said he had a backup plan if he was not elected.
“I think if I don’t get mayor, I’m going to run for governor tomorrow,” he said.
Nobody said it’s a long shot campaign, but claimed his experience running for mayor of Keene has led him to consider challenging New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu in next year’s election.
