The Love of money is the root of all evil.
When you examine the state of the world today, the extent of the corruption that surrounds us all is breathtaking. Crime is rampant all over the world; nations are at war with other nations and and groups of people are at war other groups of people. Politics has become a war zone between ideologies rather than a referendum on principles and ideas.
Greed and corporatism have infected the entire globe. Governments engage in crimes against humanity - to some, genocide is a satisfactory solution to philosophical or religious differences; unelected bureaucrats seeking to rule the world - or their portion of it - have taken control of large segments of the global population.
Authoritarianism is on the rise while ordinary people often find themselves fighting the criminal enterprises that have risen up around them and come to infest every facet of every society.
What do you believe lies at the foundation of this condition that exists throughout the world?
I submit that the evil that has engulfed this world is founded on a particular system of values that we have all lived with in varying degrees. It is a system of values designed to diminish individuality, stifle free expression, and motivate people to destroy the lives of those who do not share and express these same values. It is a system that seeks to destroy rather than create. It is a system that cultivates greed, profiteering, criminal behavior, and a disregard for life that may be unprecedented in the history of civilization.
The values that govern the vast majority of the world are based on the accumulation of money, position and power; and the object pursued by those promoting these values is absolute control of the rest of the population. That is what has brought us to the precipice of systematic destruction, and that is what will ultimately devour all that is good in the world and result in the death of humanity, unless we take immediate action to change the course of this world.
In the 1950s, countless motion pictures were released containing plot lines that foresaw the destruction of the Earth. Sometimes the stories told in these films involved invasions from extraterrestrials, sometimes they displayed technological advancements that got out of control - such as biological warfare that escaped from containment and killed the population, or the splitting of the atom that led to a war that caused a nuclear winter, or the latest technology - artificial intelligence - which some believe will lead humanity to its doom.
These grim forecasts of our world’s future foresaw the possible consequences of a social value system infused with dangerous technology causing devastating outcomes.
If the moral systems that the populations of our planet cultivate value money, position and power in pursuit of control over others, are fueled by destructive technologies (e.g. gunpowder, atomic and nuclear energy, artificial intelligence, etc.), is it any wonder that we currently stand on the edge of total destruction of our species?
World War III is just over the horizon, while the tools of biological warfare have become sophisticated enough to wipe out humanity in one fell swoop (see the non-existent COVID-19 “pandemic”), and the advent of AI could actually destroy the world in a Terminator-type scenario - as Professor Stephen Hawking believed was inevitable.
Is this our fate? Are we beyond redemption and devoid of any hope, or do we have the ability to turn around the horrors we are facing on a global scale? What can we do NOW to prevent the destruction of our planet?
The answer to this question lies in the value system on which our world has been based for millennia. Since the beginning of history - such as was shown at the very beginning of the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey - the value system we have cultivated is based on the pursuit of money, position and power in order to control the world.
We need to change that value system. We need to adopt a new value system as our foundation; one that allows us to become creators rather than destroyers. One that provides us with the ability to cultivate growth and hope rather than despair and fear.
The system we need to cultivate is one in which truth, justice, integrity, and keeping your word is more important than having money, position and power in pursuit of control.
Do not get me wrong. I am not suggesting that money, position and power have no value; they do have value. However, if money, position and power are more important than anything, then you will do anything for money, position and power. You will lie, cheat, steal and murder, because the reasons not to do those things are less important than pursuing the acquisition of money, position and power.
The system of values that promotes the acquisition of money, position and power needs to be put in its proper place.
If living the principles of truth, justice, integrity and honoring your word is more important to you - that is, it has a greater value to you - than acquiring money, position and power, then you will not lie, cheat, steal or murder in order to obtain money, position and power; because doing so would violate the principles of telling the truth, keeping your word, seeking justice and acting with integrity.
The adoption of this new and different value system will guide you to obtain money, position and power in a manner that does not destroy societies but instead promotes growth, creativity and life. It instills hope for a better tomorrow rather than fear that we are going to destroy ourselves and ruin our world before we can make our lives better. It promotes respect for individual rights, personal sovereignty and freedom to live one’s life as one sees fit, without harming your neighbor or hurting your brethren.
This new value system promotes the Spirit of our Creator that embodies us all, and reflects the Truth that represents the Character of God.
