MARIN COUNTY, Kalifornia - August 30, 2010 - A Marin County man has filed a lawsuit against the Marin County Sheriff's Department for an incident in which he says law enforcement officers went too far. Peter McFarland was tasered inside his own home while his wife watched, begging officers to stop.

On June 29, 2009, McFarland and his wife Pearl were returning home from a charity fundraiser just before midnight. McFarland injured himself as he stumbled and fell down the long steps to his front door.

SEATTLE, Washington - August 30, 2010 - A man was fatally shot by police in downtown Seattle on Monday afternoon, according to police.
 
The shooting occurred on the northwest corner of Boren Ave. and E. Howell St. at approximately 4:15 p.m.

NEW YORK - August 26, 2010 – A New York Police Department cop whose wife called 911 for help against a gang of thugs says he was brutally beaten by baton-wielding fellow officers who stormed his Queens home.

Larry Jackson suffered a broken right hand and multiple bruises from kicks and billy-club blows he said he got from the men in blue called to his home when a gunman menaced guests at his daughter's birthday party.

LAVEEN, Arizona – September 1, 2010 - There's no way Andy McDonel is taking down his "Don't Tread on Me" flag.

The homeowner’s association in McDonel's Laveen neighborhood told him to remove the yellow banner with the coiled snake from the front of his house.

The HOA called the flag debris and said it broke neighborhood rules.

HOUSTON, Texas - August 30, 2010 - Houston Police Officer Matthias Dornellien, 24, was charged Saturday with theft by a public servant. He was later released after posting $5,000 bond.

The investigation that led to his arrest was conducted by Houston police and the District Attorney’s Office.

August 28, 2010 - The increasing use of student surveillance and intrusion of school districts into students’ extra-curricular conduct should alarm us all.   Whether it is a district surveilling students in their bedrooms via webcam, conducting random drug or locker searches, strip-searching students, lowering the standard for searching students from “probable cause” to “reasonable suspicion,” disciplining students for conduct outside of school hours, searching their cell phones and text messages, or forcing them to undergo pregnancy testing, student privacy is under increasing threat.

LONDON, England - August 28, 2010 - Family rights campaigners have called for a change in the law after it was revealed that girls as young as 12 can be given the cervical cancer vaccine without their parents’ consent.  Doctors and nurses have been told they are under no legal obligation to seek the permission of a parent or guardian.
