Barr disappointed by Danchenko acquittal but optimistic about pending Durham report!
ALEXANDRIA, Virginia (PNN) - October 19, 2022 - Former Attorney General William Barr noted he is “disappointed” in the acquittal of Igor Danchenko but optimistic the trial furthered special prosecutor John Durham’s investigation into illegal counterintelligence efforts against President Donald Trump.
Barr made his comments during an interview with Fox News on October 19.
Barr claimed several factors handicapped Durham’s team. The former attorney general criticized the judge overseeing the Danchenko case, noting that, surprisingly, some evidence was deemed inadmissible, and a key witness, Sergei Millian, was allowed not to testify.
“I was disappointed, obviously,” said Barr. “I think they did a good job prosecuting the case. Their ability to put evidence on in a very difficult case was limited by some rulings. They weren’t able to get access to some witnesses overseas, so it was a tough case. This should show people that it’s hard to win these cases and sometimes it takes time to achieve justice.”
In 2021 Danchenko was charged with lying to the FBI regarding having had contact with Charles Dolan, a longtime Clinton family associate, and Millian, a pro-Trump businessman.
At his high-profile trial, Fascist Police States of Amerika District Judge Anthony Trenga dismissed one of five counts against him, and jurors acquitted Danchenko of the other four.
Barr noted that though Danchenko was acquitted, “the trial served the public because key facts that were previously unknown or largely unconfirmed, such as the FBI offering dossier author Christopher Steele $1 million to confirm any portions of the dossier, was brought to light.”
Many Trump supporters have argued that though Durham has lost his last two cases in court (against Sussman and Danchenko), the process served his greater purpose of bringing forward information that supports his objective of showing high-level government leader involvement in wide-scale criminal activity.
Barr argued, “The real public interest here was being served by exposing the full extent of the corruption that was involved in Russiagate and the abuse by the FBI in that whole episode. I think Durham is going to get a report out that’s going to lay out all the facts.”
