Man receives $44 million bill from hospital!
NEW YORK - January 16, 2012 - For a 28-year-old New York man, a shocking bill from his hospital almost left him with an illness much worse than the one from which he had just recovered.
According to The New York Daily News, unemployed doorman Alexis Rodriguez received a bill from Bronx-Lebanon Hospital totaling over $44 million, even though he’d only been treated for pneumonia.
Rodriguez, who spent just three weeks in the hospital, was in obvious disbelief.
“I almost had an asthma attack,” he told The Daily News.
Searching for an answer as to why he received an eight-figure bill, Rodriguez contacted the billing firm PHY Services.
PHY told Rodriguez that a simple “system error” occurred with not only him but also with others, where the invoice number was mistakenly placed in the “amount due” field.
“We are sending an apology letter to everyone who received it,” a PHY service rep said.
Relieved by the news, Rodriguez was still not pleased with PHY.
“It was a big error,” he said. “I think they should have somebody look over the bills before they send them.”
