Woman defies judge’s ruling over compulsory flu shot!
ANDERSON, South Carolina - December 10, 2010 - A judge says an Anderson hospital can require its employees to get a flu shot.
Multiple media outlets report that Judge Cordell Maddox Thursday gave AnMed Health cashier Bertha Hunter until December 15 to get the shot or face losing her job.
Hunter sued the hospital in September. She says the shot policy violates her privacy.
AnMed Health implemented the mandatory vaccine policy to reduce the risk of spreading the flu virus. Some hospital workers can skip the shots if they have severe egg allergies or have had a bad reaction to previous flu vaccines. Those employees must wear a mask at work.
Hunter said Thursday she has no plans to back down. She says she expects to be fired but she will continue fighting the policy.
