Outraged resident bags a couple of parking CCTV spy cars!
LONDON, England - November 5, 2010 - An angry resident remonstrated with the crew of a CCTV "spy" car before covering up their camera lens.
The man made his feelings known after he spotted the Westminster council Smart car, which was monitoring illegal parking in Maida Vale.
A clip on YouTube shows him saying, "Cameras all over the place tax people and for no reason at all."
He then shouts at the council camera crew, "Move your car... you're illegally parked. Go away." When they refuse to wind down their window, the resident tears off part of the baguette bag he is carrying and puts it on the car's periscope.
His protest was filmed by Paul Gibbs of the pressure group No To Bike Parking Tax, which is shadowing the Smart cars. Mr. Gibbs said, "They didn't even get out, they just extended it [the periscope] to knock the bag off."
Cllr Lee Rowley, Westminster's cabinet member for parking, said the council's vehicles "are permitted to park on yellow lines when carrying out statutory duties. Our drivers are instructed to park safely and considerately."
