Police State Tactics: Two arrested after plastic gun found at high school!
School placed in lockdown during investigation.
PELHAM, New Hampshire - May 20, 2009 - Two Pelham High School students were arrested Wednesday and charged with false public alarm after police found a plastic cap gun in a locker, officials said.
Pelham High School was put on lockdown and Pelham police were called after school officials received a report of a handgun in the building before noon. Some parents went to the school after getting text messages from their children.
"I didn't think anything. I just flew down here because I heard the SWAT team was down here," said parent Lisa Tracy.
News 9's Kria Sakakeeny said a 15-year-old and 16-year-old were led out of the building in handcuffs before being put into a cruiser shortly after 1 p.m.
Police said the two boys brought the cap gun to school as part of a prank. A student saw it on the hallway floor and thought it was real.
"We received a report from the high school that a student observed a handgun on the floor of the high school," said Lt. Gary Fisher.
Students described a tense situation as police searched lockers and common rooms.
"We were kind of petrified, all huddled into a corner like were supposed to do with a lockdown," said senior Holly Decarteret.
But students said word that the gun was a fake began circulating, and eventually the two teens led police to their locker.
The lockdown was ended a short time later. School officials said classes resumed as normal Wednesday afternoon.
