Prosecutor investigating police murder of teen!
WARREN, Michigan - April 13, 2009 - Relatives and friends of 16-year-old Robert Mitchell are in search of answers. The teen died after being tasered by police. The actual cause of death has not yet been determined.
A vigil was held Sunday night and his mother talked about what happened.
Warren police say Mitchell was driving a car with expired tags.
As officers pulled him over, they say he ran and then tried to hide inside a house near 8 Mile and Schoenherr.
At some point, there was a struggle and an officer used the Taser.
Relatives say Mitchell was no more than 110 pounds and posed no threat to law enforcement officials.
But a spokesperson for the Warren Police Department told Action News officers they were following their Taser guidelines.
Still, a routine internal investigation is underway and the Macomb County prosecutor's office is involved.
An autopsy is being conducting on Mitchell's body. It should be completed soon.
