Fed-up citizens march on Bank of England following protester’s death!
LONDON, England - April 2, 2009 - G20 Meltdown, the group behind four parades that converged on the Bank of England yesterday, announced a "slow march" would set off from Bishopsgate towards the bank at 12.30 pm.
A post on the organization's Twitter account announced that the march would take place "to mark the death of a protester and demand answers".
Demonstrators have also started congregating outside the bank, where a vigil will take place at 1pm.
The unnamed man was found unconscious in a street near the bank just before 7.30 pm yesterday evening.
Police said they were pelted with missiles believed to include bottles as they tried to save his life.
He was taken to hospital but later died.
One man hit an officer with a large pole amid ugly scenes as a large crowd of protesters confronted a line of police outside the bank.
There were at least 87 arrests during yesterday's protests, including four for violent disorder, six public order offenses and 11 for possessing a police uniform.
Masked demonstrators smashed their way into a branch of Royal Bank of Scotland and police chiefs said officers faced "high levels of violence" in isolated incidents throughout the day.
