Senator Durbin tells Bank of America customers to close their accounts!
WASHINGTON - October 4, 2011 - In reaction to Bank of America’s plans to soon charge customers $5 a month for using their debt cards, Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) thinks it’s time for people to leave the banking giant.
“Bank of America customers, vote with your feet,” Durbin said on Monday on the Senate floor. “Get the heck out of that bank. Find yourself a bank or credit union that won’t gouge you for $5 a month and will still give you a debit card that you can use every single day.”
Bank of America isn’t the only major bank proposing to charge customers with a new fee. Citigroup is sending letters indicating that they will start charging customers’ checking accounts unless they maintain significantly high balances.
