Fatal blast hits nuclear waste plant!
PARIS, France - September 12, 2011 - An explosion at a nuclear waste site in France has killed one person and seriously injured another.
The country's Nuclear Safety Authority said there was no radiation leak at the Marcoule nuclear plant in southern France, which treats low-level waste.
The site, which does not contain any reactors, is in Langedoc Roussillon, near the Mediterranean.
"According to initial information, the explosion happened in an oven used to melt radioactive metallic waste of little and very little radioactivity," said the NSA.
Officials from France's EDF power company stressed that there was no nuclear reactor on the site and that no waste treated at the site of the explosion came from a reactor.
