The Well-Dressed Slave
By Lee Parker
There he sits behind his desk, Unaware.
Voluntary servitude is the reality
Of his life.
Sold into slavery, unaware of his plight,
He believes that he is free.
He did what he was told to do.
He got a social security card,
a driver's license,
a student loan,
a marriage license.
He registered his property.
He registered to vote.
He registered his children.
Now he is a slave of the State.
The State owns him,
his car,
his salary.
The State owns his house.
The State owns his children.
He doesn't know.
He does what he is told to do.
He trusts.
He believes.
He believes because he wears a designer suit,
because he drives a fancy car,
because he lives in the best part of town,
because he goes to church,
because his children play soccer,
He believes that he is free.
Well, he's just a well-dressed slave.
