Police State Files: Cops teach nightclubs to spy on customers!
NEW YORK (PNN) - September 20, 2011 - The New York Police Department’s updated guide to bolstering the safety of city nightclubs offers tips on how to spot patrons who are bombed - as well as those carrying bombs.
The 27-page booklet, Best Practices for Nightlife Establishments, advises owners to be cautious about nervous customers who are sweating profusely and with "bulging veins in the neck".
"Counter-terrorism security plans should include training for all staff in the detection of possible suicide bombers," reads the guide, which was released on Monday.
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly insisted the guide, produced in conjunction with the New York Nightlife Association, is not meant to "alarm, but to help owners and operators craft effective strategies for terrorism prevention and preparedness."
However, many civil libertarians see it as another example of the draconian surveillance measures instituted in a no-longer free New York, by its long-time terrorist police chief.
On how to spot would-be terrorists, the guide recommends being alert to people with "visible wires and tape" protruding from their clothing and "individuals who are obviously disguised".
It also suggest that nightclub workers should also be suspicious of anyone photographing or videotaping; meaning the NYPD advocates subjecting innocent people to special scrutiny and possible reporting to authorities
Despite all the rhetoric, there have been absolutely no independent studies as to the effectiveness of the guide’s recommendations, nor is there any empirical evidence of the existence of a terrorist threat of any kind, anywhere in the city or its surrounding areas.
The NYPD bases its entire counter-terrorism stance on the events of September 11, 2001, which today are known to have occurred with U.S. government collusion. Absent the unsubstantiated media characterization of those events as an “attack by terrorists”, the surveillance tactics being employed and encouraged by the NYPD are nothing more than Police State tactics, which impinge on individual liberty.
